Associate | Aviation & Operational Leadership
Colm brings an aviation perspective to how organisations prepare people, coordinate teams and turn procedures into effective practice. His experience as a captain and line training captain informs his focus on clear responsibilities, sound judgement and performance under pressure.
Professional introduction
In aviation, a successful operation depends on more than having the right technology or a well-written procedure. People need to understand their responsibilities, communicate clearly and respond together when circumstances change. My career with CityJet, Emirates and Flexjet has given me practical experience of working in that environment. As a captain and line training captain, I’ve combined operational responsibility with supporting others to develop the confidence and judgement needed to apply their training. At CoLab Works, I bring this perspective to conversations about team performance, operational readiness and organisational change. My contribution is to help examine what people need to make a new process, system or way of working succeed in practice

Relevant professional experience
My career spans airline and business aviation, including more than a decade with Emirates, where I progressed to B777 Line Training Captain, before joining Flexjet. Line training brings learning into the working environment. It requires observing how someone applies their knowledge, providing constructive feedback and helping them develop while maintaining operational standards. Across these roles, I’ve worked with international teams in environments where preparation, coordination and accountability are essential. That experience offers a useful perspective for organisations introducing change: whether people understand the plan, whether responsibilities are clear and whether teams are prepared to respond when delivery becomes challenging.
How I approach my work
I start with what people need to do in practice. A process can look convincing on paper, but its value depends on whether people can understand and use it in the circumstances they actually face. I value clear expectations, realistic preparation and useful feedback. I also believe people need to feel able to ask questions and raise concerns, particularly when something doesn’t look right. High standards depend on trust as well as accountability. Being approachable, listening and keeping a sense of perspective all help teams work well together. The contribution I want to make is practical: helping organisations prepare their people, strengthen teamwork and make good intentions work in everyday operations.
